From the

Principal's Desk:

Welcome to Northside!

I am so proud of our school and the accomplishments of our students and staff.  This school year our theme is, Lights!  Camera!  Learn!” and we are working hard every day to help our students be successful. Our state test scores have been very good for the past few years and I believe our students will score well again.

Our teachers are becoming more familiar with technology and are implementing it more in their classroom instruction. They use websites, presenters, document cameras, airliner slates, and smartboards daily as they present information to students to help keep students engaged. Teachers are blogging weekly and sending home newsletters to keep parents better informed.

Technology is rapidly changing. Students attend the computer lab once a week to learn more about the resources that are available to them.  Our 4th and 5th grade students are given the opportunity to join our after school STLP (Student Technology Leadership Program). Mrs. Christy Kinney does a wonderful job with our STLP and she is the one who is responsible for keeping our school website updated.

Students attend the library once a week. They are exposed to a variety of genres and are allowed to check out books to take home. Our Battle of the Books team is very competitive and has won the district competition several times. Mrs. Darla Grob is our librarian and she is working hard to support classroom instruction, as well as, encouraging students to read. We have purchased Accelerated Reader so students can take read books and take quizzes to improve comprehension.

Our physical education program promotes students to be physically active and to learn to make healthy lifestyle choices.  In the past couple of years, we made an addition to our playground, added a climbing wall into our gym, and purchased a Wii for our physical education program. Last year Mr. Wynn also started "Wynn's Walkers" a morning walking club for 3rd-5th grade students!

 Mrs. Sharon Hill

We offer Visual Arts and Music to our students as one of their special classes.  Kindergarten through 4th grade students are offered art for 18 weeks out of the school year.  We are very fortunate to get to offer art as a class. Students will learn about the elements of art and get to apply those elements to create works of art.  Kindergarten through 4th grade students are also given the opportunity to attend music class, where they will sing, learn about rhythm and melody, as well as get to experiment various ways of creating music. They will play drums, use rhythm sticks, pat out rhythms, experience other types of rhythm instruments, as well as learn about brass, woodwinds, strings, and percussion instruments.  Fifth grade students will receive music instruction weekly, where they will learn to play the recorder.

Drama Club is in its fourth year at Northside Elementary.  Each fall our 3rd-5th grade students begin with auditions, practice weekly, and give a performance in the spring.  In May they ended the year with a wonderful performance of “The Wizard of Oz”.  This year, “Shrek the Musical” is in our near future.

Mrs. Sarah Roberts will be coaching our Academic Team. We had a great season last year and we are looking forward to another great season.

Last year, our school chartered a chapter of the Junior Beta Club.  Mrs. Tiffeney Schaad  is our Beta Club sponsor.

We have so much to offer students and our staff truly cares about kids!
