Hours:
Open Monday – Friday 7:50 – 3:15
Students come to the Library
with their class once a week. Students are also encouraged to come
back often to exchange their books for new ones.
Kindergarten and First Grades
are allowed to check out one book at a time.
Second and Third Grades are
allowed to check out two books at a time.
Fourth and Fifth Grades are
allowed to check out three books at a time.
Any student having overdue
books needs to return them as soon as possible or bring payment for lost or
damaged books so they may be replaced.
The Library sponsors lots of
programs throughout the school year. We have two Book Fairs each year,
one in the Fall and one in the Spring. All profits from these book
fairs are used to sponsor our visiting author program and buy additional
materials for the students.
We have authors visit our
school each year also. In the past we have had Eileen Christelow, Paul
Brett Johnson, Cheryl Harness, Tres Seymour, Patricia Polacco, Peter
Catalanotto, George Ella Lyon, Leigh Anne Florence, and Marie Bradby.
We have sponsored a “Battle of
the Books” competition every year since 1990. Students read from a
list of books compiled by the four elementary library media specialists.
In the early spring, we have a county competition between the four
elementary schools at the High School Auditorium. All family and
friends are welcome to attend and cheer on their favorite school.
Reading is a very important
part of learning and the library’s purpose is to provide quality literature
and programs to support the school curriculum and the student’s interests.
We strive to reach proficiency for each and every student and believe that
reading is the key!
Fourth and fifth grade book
clubs are new this year. We have a list of books planned and are also doing
book talks. Below are links to videos of students doing book talks on
their favorite book…whether it’s an old favorite or new.
