The last full week of school is officially finished. A big Thank-You to Chef Clayton Lesak from Krubaloo’s at the Cynthiana Country Club for making us some grilled cheese pizza today. This was a dish the student’s created during “Cool Jobs” week and he made the dish for sampling today. Today, we also went to the cafeteria to watch a parade of famous Kentuckians put on by Mrs. Debbie Schmidt’s Second Grade class. Spelling words are going home for next week. This is a basic review from calendar. There will be NO SCHOOL on Tuesday due to Election Day. Thursday will only be a half day. It has been a great week. Field day yesterday was very fun and energetic for all the kids (and teachers).

We are now approaching Thursday. These weeks seem to be going faster and faster. Spelling homework was sent home late as we will be working on this list for the this and next week. Be sure to study the words with your child nightly. A note went home today regarding Field Day. Please feel free to join us and enjoy the festivities. Students should wear sunscreen, tennis shoes and shorts to participate in activities. Water, snow cones, and Popsicles will be available for them in the warm weather. Today we took the class picture for the field day t-shirts. In Math, we are working on measurement booklets and the students are liking this activity. We are still working on our summer calendar and learning more about Helen Keller, Flag day and every holiday we miss during the school year. The students are enjoying this life skill/history lesson each day. It is time for all library books to be returned. Please look around the house and see if you find any books that need to be returned. Field Day will be Thursday. Notes went home today for parents to vote for next years site based council. Have a great evening.

We have tested all week and the students have done a great job. We have tried to not send home homework other than spelling for this reason. I am sure they are worn out at night. We will be sending home our “Cool Jobs” book home this week and we are working on a calendar for the summer that the students are really enjoying. Please save all voting stickers for this. They are making their calendars very colorful.

Cool Jobs

Thursday, May 10th, 2012

During our unit “Cool Jobs” we learned about many unique jobs. We were also lucky to have several guest speakers visit our classroom. We were visited by a hair stylist, a chef, the sheriff, and a physician. To top of our week we learned about the Kentucky Derby and had our own Eastside Derby complete with a call to the post, an owners post parade, and a blanket of roses for the winners. Our Derby was held at Cedar Ridge Health Campus for all of our friends there. Thank you to everyone who made such a special week for us and helped us to learn so much.

We have made it through Spirit Week, Guest Speaker week and the Kentucky Derby races at Cedar Ridge. We have just about completed our “Cool Jobs” book and are beginning this week with testing throughout the school. Our kids are also doing many tests and will need some really good rest at night. We have counted and worked on our days of school. We. as of this morning has 13 and 1/2 days left. It is unbelievable that the time has gone this fast. We are trying to get outside with this testing so please make sure that your child is dressed for the predicted weather. If you have any questions please feel free to contact the classroom.

Shew! It has been SPIRIT WEEK here at Eastside. We have had crazy hair, mismatched clothes day, sports day, and tomorrow is hat day. This has been my solo week and we are enjoying the guest speakers. Today we had Sheriff Bruce Hampton and tomorrow we will have Dr. Stephen Moses and Chef Clayton Lesak here joining us. Students need to be working really hard on math facts and those reading words. They are really enjoying the tutoring pals they are getting from the 5th grade students. This has been very interesting and heartwarming to observe. Have a great night.
