Spring Break: March 30 – April 3!
This week we are continuing to read various books in reading group. One group is reading a Magic Tree House book, another group is reading The Chalkbox Kid, and the third group is reading an Amelia Bedelia book. All the books are fun to read. Please ask your child about the book he/she is reading this week. I'm sure he/she would love to discuss it with you!
Yesterday was such a fun day celebrating Read Across America. Be sure to ask your child about the guests he/she had in his/her classroom yesterday.
Attention Students: If you can tell me who is currently on the front page of the Harrison County website and why that person is special to me, you will receive a prize!
This week we will be reading several of Dr. Seuss' famous books as we approach the celebration of Read Across America Day. We will use these books to learn about using context clues, how to read with expression, why authors write, and much more! It will be a fun week of reading! In math we are still working hard on learning those division facts. If you could do flash cards with your child each night, it would be so beneficial! Let me know if you need flash cards.
This week in math we are working hard on division. I am proud of the way students are catching on to the rules of division and division facts. We are trying to finish up Blizzard of the Blue Moon in reading group so that we can move on to some special reading selections next week for Read Across America.
In writing group this week we are reviewing the writing process
1. Prewrite
2. Rough Draft
3. Revise
4. Edit
5. Publish
Following these five steps will help lead us to wonderful writing pieces!
In reading we are continuing to read Blizzard of the Blue Moon, which is very appropriate for the weather we've experienced over the past couple of weeks.
Spelling lists are the same as last week since we were only here a day and a half.
In math we are discussing factors and multiples. We practiced a wonderful "real-world" example of using multiples to find the least common multiple. Be sure to ask your child (if they need a reminder…it's something they could use in a grocery store).
Have a great week!
It was good to be back today. We did not have a spelling test since we have not been here much. Next week's list will be the same words. Have a good weekend!
Today we are finally getting to have the Battle of the Books after it being rescheduled twice. I am anxious to see how Eastside will do! In reading this week we are continuing to read Blizzard of the Blue Moon. When you get a chance please review sight words with your child to reinforce what they already know. Constant practice is a must. Also, please take time to read with your child each night. It can be their homework, the newspaper, or a book they choose for entertainment. It will be so beneficial for them for you to do this.
This week we will begin reading the book, Blizzard of the Blue Moon. It should be a great book to read on some winter days. In math we are continuing to work on some introductory algebraic operations. Students are surprised they are actually doing algebra! Our writing group continues writing persuasive pieces. They have chosen some interesting topics. In most cases their parents are their audience!
The Battle of the Books (rescheduled from December) is this Friday. Also, there is no school next Monday due to Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.
Have a great week!
Wow, it's been a fast week back! Today we are starting to look at "Real World Reading." Students should be looking for things (labels, logos, etc.) that they can read because they are surrounded by these words everyday. Students are encouraged to bring in their examples for our bulletin board.
