Spelling Words for week of February 8-12

Be sure to check Spelling City for the words for this week.  I will post the vocabulary words for the week tomorrow.  The story and the list name for this week is Cook-A-Doodle Do!  Some students are on the 3rd grade list and some are on the 4th grade list.  Your child knows what list they are on.  Remember that Spelling City offers games and activities that use your child's spelling words for the week.  This is a great way to practice spelling words and have fun at the same time!

Reading - We are still trying to get these reading groups in our classroom organized.  Remember that you may not have the exact same homework as another student, depending on what group you are in, what spelling list you have, etc.  For tonight, read The Jones Family Express.  Be sure that you INFER as you read.  Pay close attention to the context clues in the story as you come upon those vocabulary words.  IF YOU HAVE A FLUENCY SHEET, PRACTICE IT EACH NIGHT!

Vocabulary Words for all groups:

annual               wrapping

potential            aisles

politely               expensive

innocent             package

Be sure you know these words, you are able to read them, you know their meaning, and you can use them in a sentence.

Spelling - All groups have a spelling packet to complete.  Check Spelling City for your list.  You also have a copy of your list in your binder.  Be sure to pay extra attention to the words you missed today during your pretest.

Monday homework postings will be lengthy from here on because I will be giving you vocabulary information, story information, etc.  Use this information for the entire week.

SCIENCE - Read over chapter in lesson 3 on page 174-182.  Know what the different adaptations are for animals in an ecosystem.  Know the difference between mimicry and camouflage. Know what hibernation and migration are.  Be able to give examples of different animals from the chapter that use these adaptations.

There is a chance that we will have some snowy weather this week.  If we are not in school, continue to study spelling words, reread your reading story, read in your science book, practice your x5's, and continue on with your morning work.  We will continue on the best we can when you come back to school.
