Tuesday - We will begin the the element of music called Timbre today. Students will learn about the brass family.
Wednesday – Finish Brass reading materials and watch Brass Video
Thursday – Woodwind demonstration. Begin Woodwind reading.
Friday – What woodwind video and finish woodwinds.

· Beginning band students will need to be in their seats in thehigh school cafeteria by 1:00 PM for warm-up.
· Bring your instrument without the case and music for theconcert.
· You may need to eat a peanut butter sandwich if your church service runs long. Eat before you come.
· Plan to stay the entire concert time.
· Gentlemen must wear dress pants, dress shirt, tie, dark belt, dark socks, dress shoes or boots.
· Ladies must wear a skirt or dress that hangs below the knee or dress pants and a nice top. They should also wear dress shoes. Please make sure that the clothes cover your body when your arms are in playing position.
· Please let me know early if there is a problem getting clothes.
· NO T-SHIRTS, SWEATSHIRTS, JEANS OR TENNIS SHOES.

I would like for my students to be able to see and listen to the advanced band. Please schedule your day so that they can stay for the entire concert. It could last about an hour and forty-five minutes. Students would probably be done by 4:00 PM if not a little before.

Practice Journals are due December 3, 2010. The last one for the nine week will be due December 10, 2010. Please get missing journals in as soon as possible.

Monday – Students will take notes on Dynamics. They will learn why we have dynamics, when they were first written into music and how we use them today. They will do work to reinforce what the dynamic markings stand for.
Tuesday – Finish work on dynamics. Many students will be gone for the reward's trip. Congratulations!!!!

Wednesday – Begin work on Harmony. We will learn the piano keyboard, half and whole steps
Thursday – Learn to build major scales.
Friday – Continue building scales and spelling triads.

Practice Journals
We have turned in journals for October 29th, November 5th and will be turning in November 12th this week. Please turn them in on time. November 5th will be taken until the end of the day Tuesday November 9th. They will be considered late after November 9th.
After School Tutoring
I will be staying after school on Tuesday for brass and Thursday for Woodwind this week. Please make sure if you stay that you can be picked up by 4:30 in the front of the building. I have had to stay past five a couple of times this year because parents didn't pick their child up on time. Please be considerate and help with this issue. Anyone needing extra help can stay with me.

We have been working on Melody this past week.
Monday – Students will create a Rubric to grade their presentations. Students will complete their four measure phrase presentations.
Tuesday – We will grade the treble clef work from last week and play Jeopardy if time allows.
Wednesday – Students will create an 8 measure musical phrase in groups and present their work to the class.
Thursday – Review Melody for the Unit Test
Friday – Unit Test over Melody.

I will be staying after Wednesday (brass) and Thursday (Woodwind) to help students this week. Please have a ride by 4:30PM.
Our Christmas Concert is just around the corner.
December 12, 2010 2:00PM High School Auditorium.
We will warm up at 1:00PM I will announce the place as soon as I have one.
Combined Band Rehearsal during school.
December 2 and December 10 from 1:24-2:45. This rehearsal is during 6th and 7th hour. Please see your teachers before that day and get your work. You will be responsible for turning in any missed assignments for those practices.
Concert Dress:
Men will need to wear dress pants (Kahki's are fine), dress shirt with a collar, tie, dark socks, dark belt and dress shoes or boots. Please let me know early if you can't get these items.
Ladies will need to wear a dress, skirt (length below the knees) or dress pants and a nice shirt and dress shoes. Make sure that the shirt is long enough to cover even when your arms are in playing position. No see through items and your undergarments should not show. Please let me know early if you need help with finding cloths.
NO T-SHIRTS, JEANS, SWEAT SHIRTS, SWEAT PANTS OR TENNIS SHOES

Monday – We start Melody today. We will take notes and do a short activity.
Tuesday – Election Day!!! No School!!! No More TV Ads for Candidates!!!
Wednesday - Students will be using the treble clef to create measures with words. They will use the music alphabet.
Thursday – Students will apply their treble clef knowledge on in class work.
Friday – We will check our treble clef work and have a short quiz over lines and spaces for treble clef. Jeopardy if time allows.
