The unit test over Europe has been moved to Thursday, February 25th. We began a study guide today (Tuesday). Students should have a complete and correct study guide when they leave class tomorrow.
Today in social studies we will be wrapping up a Close Reading activity on Eastern Europe and beginning to prepare for our test. We will continue our test review on Monday (don’t forget that school is in session on Monday!). We will have our test over Europe on Tuesday. This assessment will look a little different from previous tests, but the students will have a study guide. They will be asked to describe Europe using the 5 Themes of Geography.
We will be having a quiz over modern South America on Friday, January 16th. The quiz will include 20 multiple choice questions. Students will be receiving a study guide on Thursday. I will also grading students’ notebooks starting on Thursday. All work between pages 94 and 105 should be completed and ready for me to grade.
There are several important due dates coming up in social studies. We will be reviewing for our semester final on Wednesday, December 10th. All students should bring home a study guide that night to help them prepare for the test. This test will also count as our Frozen Reward Test for this 9-weeks. Students must score an 80% on this test in order for it count towards one of their four proficient tests that they need to qualify for the reward. The test will be on Thursday, December 11th and will contain 50 multiple choice questions.
The South America Document Based Question Packet is due on Monday, December 15th. Points will be deducted if these are turned in late.
I have added 2 large grades since mid-terms were sent home – an ISN grade and a unit test over Central America. These could have had a positive or negative impact on students’ averages so I encourage everyone to check with their child (these have been returned to the students) or on Parent Portal for the latest grades.
Students were given their second Document Based Question Packet today over South America. These are due on Monday, December 15th.
Due to yesterday’s snow day and today’s 2 hour delay, our Central America test has been postponed to Thursday. We will be spending today and tomorrow reviewing. Students should have a correct and complete study guide by the end of class tomorrow. The test on Thursday will include 20 multiple choice questions and one short constructed response. The CRQ will address immigration and push-pull factors of the region. We will begin South America on Friday.
All 6M social studies students will have a unit test on Tuesday, November 18th. This test will include both multiple choice and constructed response questions. The majority of the test will cover Central America and the Caribbean, but there will be a few questions from previous units on the test. Students will receive a study guide on Monday to help them prepare for the test.
All 6M students will have a social studies test tomorrow, Tuesday, September 16. The test will include 20 multiple choice questions and 1 extended response. All students received a study guide today for the test. I will also begin checking ISNs tomorrow. Students should have pages 22-37 ready to be graded.
Welcome to HCMS! This year in social studies we will be covering world geography and cultures. Students will be supplied with a folder, composition book, paper, pencil, and agenda. We have new textbooks that will remain in the room unless individual students check them out. Students should be writing in their agendas everyday, so please check that for homework and class updates. I will be updating my blog with weekly topics, tests, and projects to help keep you informed of what is happening in social studies. Please don’t hesitate to email me if you have any questions this year!
