Reminders:

Our spring dance will be held Friday, April 19th.

Fifth grade field trip will be held on May 20th. Permission slip will be coming home soon.

Read-a-thon money is due on Feb. 13th.

Our classroom valentine exchange will be on Feb. 14th. (No party!)

Friday, February 15th is an early release Friday for students!

Monday, February 18th is Presidents’ Day and there will be NO school.

Northside is having a “Read-a-thon” which will end on February 13th. Please encourage your children to read at least 15 minutes per day at home. We hope our school can make a whole lot of money and send Mrs. Hill to the roof for an entire day!!

On February 8th, from 3:15 – 5:15, the Northside PTO is sponsoring a Valentine’s Day dance. Students will be bringing home information today, along with a permission slip if they would like to attend. Please send that back to school as soon as possible.

We will NOT be having a Valentine’s Day party. However, students will be permitted to exchange valentine cards on February 14th. I will be sending home a class list very soon.

Please save Ken’s receipts and Box Tops for Education. There is a contest going on right now involving the Box Tops. So, send those in with your child. The winning class from each hallway wins an ipod Touch!!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas filled with fun and relaxation with their families!

We are back in the “swing of things” already today: Homework:

Reading: Read “Weslandia”, do page 154 in reading practice book, and do personification worksheet.

Social Studies: Summary Sheet

Math: Expanded Form

Writing: Do the “pre-write” about Christmas break.

We will be having our Christmas party on Wednesday, December 19th around 8:30 a.m. Girls should bring a gift for a girl and boys should bring a gift for a boy in the $5-7 range. Please send gifts to school by December 18th! (Parents are welcome to attend!)

Students will be served brunch that morning around 9:25. School will be dismissed at 11:30 a.m. for the Christmas break.

Northside’s Christmas program will be held tonight at the Harrison County High School auditorium at 7:00 pm. Fifth graders will be playing their recorders. Students need to be at the high school around 6:30. I will be bringing their recorders (unless they have them at home). I look forward to seeing everyone tonight!!

Our fifth graders attended the Pow Wow at Eastside Elementary School this morning. A GREAT time was had by everyone!! The different learning stations were very informative and the food was enjoyed by students. Thanks to all of the parents who donated food items!!

On November 20th, there will be an Awards Ceremony. Students who received Proficient and Distinguished on tests last year  will receive an award that day. The ceremony begins at 9:15 a.m. Parents are welcome to attend!

Fifth graders enjoyed a wonderful field trip to the Harrison County Extension Office on Monday, November 5th for the annual “Recipe for Reading” program. The students thoroughly enjoyed cooking with the homemakers and LOVED eating the finished products!!

Remember, Friday, November 9th is an early dismissal day for students.

Mid-terms will be going home on Monday, November 12th.

Our Halloween party will be held tomorrow at 2:00 pm. Students are permitted to come in costume.

The “Recipe for Reading” will be held on Monday, November 5th after lunch. Permission slips need to be returned by November 1st.

Thanks to all who came to parent-teacher conferences last night! I enjoyed meeting with each of you!!
