Help at home

September 15th, 2011

If you would like to help your child succeed at school try these things at home.

1. Have your child say the letters of the alphabet and their sounds.

2. Have your child read letters and numbers on signs as you go around town.

3. Practice rhyming words.

4. Read a book with your child.

5. Count by ones and tens.

6. Have your child sort your change. Let him or her count the coins.

Remember everything we do can be taught to our kids. Above all remind them what you expect of them when they are at school. The academics should come in time, but teaching our children to be respectful, hardworking, kind people takes all of us working together, every single day.

Math Assessments

September 15th, 2011

This week we have taken our first math common assessments. This is a test developed by district kindergarten teachers to make sure kindergarteners at all 4 elementaries in the district are making progress. Overall I have been pleased with how the students in my class performed. If you are wondering how your child did check and see. Ask your child to count to 20, count at least 5 objects, write his or her numbers 0-5, and name basic shapes. If your child can do these things he or she is right on track!
