ONE more week!!! As we count down the final days and yet another week has come to a close we are finishing up some loose ends in the classroom. Your child will be bringing home a lot of papers. Some of these will be packets of things they can work on over the summer that we had left throughout the year. There will also be things I have kept through the year as well as their latest report card assessments. We have had a good time this week learning about balloons and doing some experiments with those. Next week we will focus our reviews on ice cream and then summer on Thursday with an ice cream party in the afternoon. I look forward to another great week to round out the year.
A few reminders: Next Friday, the last day of school, WILL be a HALF day now, next week we will have fun day, field day, and get to watch the talent show. It should be an exciting and very busy week for the kids.
Have a great weekend!

As another week comes to a close, the children are anxiously counting down the days. We will wrap up our unit about animals today finishing it off with a writing about fish. We have learned about lots of different types of animals that I hope the children will be able to tell you all about! Next week we will focus our studies on balloons and have several literature stories to use to make this a fun week for the kids. There will be NO homework starting next week for the last two weeks. Please continue to have your child read for at least 10 minutes every night and continue to practice those sight words.
A few reminders: There will be NO SCHOOL on Monday in observance of Memorial Day. Next Thursday the students will be attending an assembly on Stranger Safety. The following week students will have Field Day and Fun Day before closing out the school year. Also, don’t forget to send in $5 for the end of the year classroom videos. Mrs. Dickey has worked VERY hard on these and they are a wonderful way for your child to remember their first grade year.
Thanks again and have a great weekend!

As we close out another week I can’t believe its almost the end of the year! This week will be the last week that your child will have the normal homework they have been bringing home. We will not be doing any more stories from the big reading books and will be doing more theme based activities centered around literature stories. Next week we will be doing a travel day to Australia on Monday, no school on Tuesday for students and then Wednesday thru Friday we will be learning about fish. The following week we will be doing more reading literature units and report card assessments. Then to close out the school year we will have a week filled with activities such as field day, fun day, and the talent show just to name a few! It should be an exciting few weeks to come. Even though your child will not be bringing home the normal homework, please continue to go over their sight words and read with them for at least ten minutes a night to keep their reading fluency where it is now. Thank you for all your help this year and lets continue to finish strong for our kids.
A few reminders: NO SCHOOL next Tuesday for students, NO SCHOOL Monday, May 26th for students, don’t forget to send in $5 for a class DVD if your interested in purchasing one of those. More details to come on the last week of school activities in the next week.
Have a GREAT weekend!

This week we have learned about plants. Today we will be planting flowers and the kids are super excited about this. This has also been spirit week and the kids have been having a great time with that. If the rain holds off today, we get to enjoy a sack lunch outside for some continued fun. I am so pleased with their willingness to work hard this week since originally we weren’t even supposed to be here. I am looking forward to these next few weeks as we wrap up their first grade year! Be looking for a note in your child’s folder explaining our reading homework from this point forward.
A few reminders: our field trip will be on Monday, April 28th, Easter egg hunt will be on Friday, April 20th (send in candy filled eggs if possible, numbered 1-22 and taped shut), MAP testing will be next Friday, NO SCHOOl on Election Day or Memorial Day for students, and student’s last day of school will be June 6th.
Have a great weekend!

We are rolling through the days now, hoping all this snow is gone! Now bring on the rain and pretty weather. Next week we will be doing things a little differently than we typically do. Homework will look different as we are trying to give the kids a change of pace for what should have been spring break week. Their reading and math homework will be different but they will still have spelling words and reading and math homework nightly.
A few reminders: our Easter egg hunt will be on Friday, April 18th. Don’t forget to send in candy filled eggs numbered 1-23 and taped shut. Also, our field trip to the Horse Park will be on Monday, April 28th. If you have not returned your child’s permission slip yet please do so as soon as possible. PTO has paid for the trip so all we need is the signed slip.
Thanks for your participation and all your help with our kiddos! Have a great weekend.

Another snow day!! I am SO ready for spring. I hope your kiddos had a good day off and are ready to get back in the swing of things tomorrow. I spent my day working on lesson plans and work for my masters class I am working on. We had to make a prezi presentation on ways that we reach diverse learners. Part of the grading criteria is to post it to the school website so here is my presentation about some of the things we do in the classroom if you would like to take a quick look. Enjoy!

Happy Valentine’s Day!!! The kids are looking forward to an exciting day of exchanging valentines today and having ice cream. I hope the weather holds off to permit this. This week we have done several different activities for Valentine’s Day and I hope you have enjoyed seeing all the things your child has made. Next week we will be talking about President’s Day.
A few things to remember: we WILL be in school on Monday (President’s Day) now and yearbook money is due by February 28th. If you have internet service at your house please allow your child time to work on Moby Max using the slip of information I sent home this week. This is a great program that will help them work on skills directly related to your child’s progress. Also, please make sure your child is reading each night.
Have a great weekend!

As I sit home on yet another snow day I think about all the things that are coming up within the next week of school….providing we get to go back next week. Lol! I am so over this snow as I’m sure most of you are and hopefully the kiddos are ready to get back too. A few things to be thinking about. We will have our Valentines party on Friday, February 14th. Your child will NOT need to bring in a box. We will take care of that at school. If your child brings in valentines to share with the class please make sure there is one for everyone. We have 25 students in our class. I will send home a list of students as soon as we get back to school. Also upcoming is the 100th day of school. There will be a couple letters about this coming home on the next day of school as well. One of these is a project to be completed at home with your child and returned to school as soon as possible. Right now, this day will be the week after next.
Hope everyone is staying warm and enjoying their time off. Make the best of the days now because we may be there all summer!! Read, read, read.
