This week we have learned about plants. Today we will be planting flowers and the kids are super excited about this. This has also been spirit week and the kids have been having a great time with that. If the rain holds off today, we get to enjoy a sack lunch outside for some continued fun. I am so pleased with their willingness to work hard this week since originally we weren’t even supposed to be here. I am looking forward to these next few weeks as we wrap up their first grade year! Be looking for a note in your child’s folder explaining our reading homework from this point forward.
A few reminders: our field trip will be on Monday, April 28th, Easter egg hunt will be on Friday, April 20th (send in candy filled eggs if possible, numbered 1-22 and taped shut), MAP testing will be next Friday, NO SCHOOl on Election Day or Memorial Day for students, and student’s last day of school will be June 6th.
Have a great weekend!

We are rolling through the days now, hoping all this snow is gone! Now bring on the rain and pretty weather. Next week we will be doing things a little differently than we typically do. Homework will look different as we are trying to give the kids a change of pace for what should have been spring break week. Their reading and math homework will be different but they will still have spelling words and reading and math homework nightly.
A few reminders: our Easter egg hunt will be on Friday, April 18th. Don’t forget to send in candy filled eggs numbered 1-23 and taped shut. Also, our field trip to the Horse Park will be on Monday, April 28th. If you have not returned your child’s permission slip yet please do so as soon as possible. PTO has paid for the trip so all we need is the signed slip.
Thanks for your participation and all your help with our kiddos! Have a great weekend.

Another snow day!! I am SO ready for spring. I hope your kiddos had a good day off and are ready to get back in the swing of things tomorrow. I spent my day working on lesson plans and work for my masters class I am working on. We had to make a prezi presentation on ways that we reach diverse learners. Part of the grading criteria is to post it to the school website so here is my presentation about some of the things we do in the classroom if you would like to take a quick look. Enjoy!

Happy Valentine’s Day!!! The kids are looking forward to an exciting day of exchanging valentines today and having ice cream. I hope the weather holds off to permit this. This week we have done several different activities for Valentine’s Day and I hope you have enjoyed seeing all the things your child has made. Next week we will be talking about President’s Day.
A few things to remember: we WILL be in school on Monday (President’s Day) now and yearbook money is due by February 28th. If you have internet service at your house please allow your child time to work on Moby Max using the slip of information I sent home this week. This is a great program that will help them work on skills directly related to your child’s progress. Also, please make sure your child is reading each night.
Have a great weekend!

As I sit home on yet another snow day I think about all the things that are coming up within the next week of school….providing we get to go back next week. Lol! I am so over this snow as I’m sure most of you are and hopefully the kiddos are ready to get back too. A few things to be thinking about. We will have our Valentines party on Friday, February 14th. Your child will NOT need to bring in a box. We will take care of that at school. If your child brings in valentines to share with the class please make sure there is one for everyone. We have 25 students in our class. I will send home a list of students as soon as we get back to school. Also upcoming is the 100th day of school. There will be a couple letters about this coming home on the next day of school as well. One of these is a project to be completed at home with your child and returned to school as soon as possible. Right now, this day will be the week after next.
Hope everyone is staying warm and enjoying their time off. Make the best of the days now because we may be there all summer!! Read, read, read.

Today we will send our first midterm home with the children. Be looking for that in their folder and sign and return it to school. They will also have another spelling list and dictation sentence. On Thursday the students will have a special treat as we start our travels of around the world studies with our first stop being a visit to China. We are looking forward to this exciting passport for the children. Continue to read and practice sight words nightly with your child to create reading fluency. Thanks for your continued support of our kiddos. They are wonderful! Have a great week.
