April 8

Welcome Back!! I hope everyone had an enjoyable spring break last week.  I know I enjoyed spending every minute with my kids and hope you were able to get some quality time in as well.  The kids came back today ready to go.  I have been very impressed with their behavior after being gone for a week.  Hopefully, we will get back in the swing of things this week and finish out the year strong.  It is hard to believe we only have 6 1/2 weeks left!  Thanks for your continued support and continue to read with your child nightly to push those reading skills.

Just a few notes:  next Tuesday we will have our illustrator visit for this year and then on May 3 we are planning a field trip to the Selato in Frankfort.  More details to come soon! I will also be sending home the Legends game bookmarks for free tickets today so be looking for those too!

Have a great week!!!!

This week we will be having our spelling and phonics assessment on Wednesday.  I attached a new dictation sheet to their spelling list.  Several students were missing their list.  If you do not have it please let me know so I can get them a new one.  Don’t forget Thursday is early release day and there is no school on Friday.  The students that participated in the music program last week did a FABULOUS job! Thank you for your support in bringing them to participate.  Hope everyone has a great week.

February 5

Tuesday, February 5th, 2013

It seems like it has been a while since we have been in our routine but hopefully things will get back to normal the end of this week.  We will have new spelling words this week and will continue with our comprehension assessment over our decodable readers as well as our phonics this week.  We will also begin having math fact assessments.  We have already been practicing doubles facts and we will be learning to add 1 this week too.

A few reminders:  you can send in Valentine cards as long as you bring one for each child, however, we will NOT be having a party.  Please do NOT send in anything to put the cards in.  Next Friday, February 15th is Early Release Day and March 5th is our music program.

Have a great week!

January 29

Tuesday, January 29th, 2013

As you have probably already noticed, our work is a little different this week.  Please practice spelling words from last week and read a book of choice with your child nightly. Since we only had three days last week we were not able to finish our phonics lessons last week so we carried those over through this week.  Your child will also start to have math fact homework nightly so please be sure they do this and return it to school the next day.  I will be sending home a note today about our valentine exchange that has each student’s name on it.  Any questions about this, let me know.  Hope you have a great day….enjoy the sunshine!!!!

January 10

Hard to believe we have been back from Christmas break for a week now.  How this school year is FLYING!!!  Students are working very hard to reach their potential and I have seen some tremendous growth from them.  They recently took a school wide test that we also took at the beginning of the year in reading and to see their progress was incredible.  Next week we will take the math part of the test and I hope to see the same results!  Don’t forget there will be no school on January 21.  Please continue to read nightly with your child.  It is vital to have them practice reading so they can apply their words to reading and not just memorizing their sight word lists.  Around this time we typically see a growth with the children and their skills and I look forward to watching your child continue to grow.  Have a great weekend!

The kids have had a very exciting day.   They have gotten to pack up all the presents they made for their families which took a lot of hard work on their part!  They were entertained with the Muppets’Christmas Carol today and will round out the day with their Christmas party and book exchange.  They have had a great couple days this week.  Tomorrow, they will have a sing-a-long in the morning and then we will dismiss at 11:30.  Don’t forget to make arrangements for early dismissal.

I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday!  I will see your kiddos smiling little faces again in January ! :)
