As the year is getting underway, we are into the full swing of things here in our classroom.  This week we have started our second week of our Journeys series and are continuing on with our first topic of our new math series.  The students are learning about possessive nouns, characters in a story, and addition word problems.  We are also finishing up our MAP testing this week with our math test on Thursday.  Please continue to practice spelling and sight words nightly with your child as well as their daily reading or math homework.  Thank you for all your help as we make our kids the best they can be!

Don’t forget:  NO SCHOOL on Monday, September 7 for Labor Day and Grandparent’s Day will be on Wednesday, September 9.

Have a great week!

November 13

Thursday, November 13th, 2014

We are rolling right through another week of learning here in our classroom.  This week we have talked about using commas, sequencing stories, Veteran’s Day, and numbers 40-80 in regards to place value.  We will finish out the week tomorrow with JA day.  This is always a fun time for the kids to learn valuable lessons from the high school students.  Next week will be our last full week before Thanksgiving break so we will try to get a lot of learning packed in before taking a three day break for family time.  We will be out of school on November 26, 27, and 28 for Thanksgiving.  There are no other reminders at this time.  I hope everyone has a great weekend!

This has been our first week of Saxon phonics.  Please be looking for that homework nightly.  Students will also be taking their second spelling test this week.  Next week we will begin our success time.  This is a small group time for our students to focus on skills they will be using throughout the year.  Your child will be bringing home a math sheet of homework to complete next week too.  We will complete the front side in class and then the back will be done at home.  Your child will know how to do each problem because we will have just done it earlier that morning.

A few reminders:  picture day will be next Thursday, midterms will go home on September 15, fall break is October 13-17.

Have a great weekend!

ONE more week!!! As we count down the final days and yet another week has come to a close we are finishing up some loose ends in the classroom.  Your child will be bringing home a lot of papers.  Some of these will be packets of things they can work on over the summer that we had left throughout the year.  There will also be things I have kept through the year as well as their latest report card assessments.  We have had a good time this week learning about balloons and doing some experiments with those.  Next week we will focus our reviews on ice cream and then summer on Thursday with an ice cream party in the afternoon.  I look forward to another great week to round out the year.

A few reminders:  Next Friday, the last day of school, WILL be a HALF day now, next week we will have fun day, field day, and get to watch the talent show.  It should be an exciting and very busy week for the kids.

Have a great weekend!
