Mrs. Teegarden’s Trails

This week we are reading Pig in a Wig. The students are learning about the differences between real and fantasy.  In math we are working on place value and how to make groups of tens.  

A few reminders:  there will be NO SCHOOL on Monday.  The fall festival will be on Saturday, September 10th and Grandparents Day will be on Wednesday, September 7th.

What a great week we are having!  The children are eager to learn as we are getting into our weekly reading stories.  This week we will be reading Sam, Come Back!. Monday and Tuesday nights your child will bring home a short paper book.  Please read this with them, sign, and return to school the next day.  On Wednesday nights they will bring home their Reading Street reading book.  They will read the weekly story.  On Thursday night they will bring home another paper book to read.  Please read with them nightly as well as practice spelling words.  They will also be asked to write their dictation sentence each night.  On Friday they will have a dictation assessment, reading assessment, and spelling assessment.  In math this week we are working on counting numbers to 40.

What another great week we are having, and I anticipate it to continue.  These truly are a great group of children.  We will continue this week preparing for the next.  We are reading several short, easy readers this week to prepare for their first reading story which will be next week.  Please read this book with them nightly, sign it, and return with them to school the following day.  Also, please practice those word lists that are being sent home to go along with the stories.  As I said, next week we will read the first story of our reading series, so please be practicing their reading nightly to get them ready for next week.

We are off and running and having a wonderful time doing it!  Our class this year is fantastic and I am looking forward to growing with them as the year progresses.  This week has been a great one.  We have been reviewing concepts, getting to know each other, and taking a few assessments that will let me know where each of your children are academically.  

Our specials schedule for this year will be:  Monday – Art, Tuesday – PE, Wednesday – PE, Thursday – Computers, and Friday – Library.  Our scheduled lunch time for this year will be at 12:00.  Please be sure your child wears tennis shoes or brings them to use for PE days.
