Happy Halloween!

Monday, October 31st, 2011

What a day the children have had!  They were entertained this morning by the book character style show and then Mr. Fields put on a show with another one of his crazy costumes. They are having a great day!

This week we will be reading Who Works Here? talking about different workers in the community.  We will also be focusing on workers within the school.  In math this week we will be finishing off our counting unit with numbers from 80-120.

Another reminder:  There will be NO SCHOOL next Tuesday, November 8th because of Election Day.

I hope everyone has a fantastic week.

Hope everyone enjoyed their day off yesterday.  While the children were at home playing, the teachers were hard at work here at school learning and digging into the new core standards we are teaching to this year.  It was a good day that taught us a lot.

We are not doing a reading story this week since we only have 3 days.  The students will be bringing home a reader to practice nightly and we will read it everyday in class.  Please initial as you do the other readers.  We will be doing math this week, focusing on measuring length using nonstandard units of measurement.

A few reminders:  Field trip this Friday to Evan's Apple Orchard, NO SCHOOL on November 8 for Election Day.

Have a great week!

Hope everyone had a great fall break.  I know I enjoyed spending the week with my family.  It was good to settle down from going non-stop since school started.

This week we will be reading The Farmer in the Hat.  Our spelling words will be long vowel a words.  Please practice these with your children nightly as well as their sight words.  We will be working on place value in math.

A few reminders:  report cards go home tomorrow, parent teacher conferences will be Wednesday nigh, fall pictures will be Friday, NO SCHOOL next Monday, and next Friday will be our field trip to Evan's Apple Orchard.

Have a great week!

This week we will be reading Max and Ruby: A Big Fish for Max. We will be working with the sh and th blends and you will find these in their spelling words for the week.  In math this week we will be focusing on counting from 40-80.  We will also be doing several assessments this week to prepare for report cards which will go home the week after fall break.

A few things going on this week for the children:  on Thursday there will be a band here called the Wulfe Brothers to celebrate the CATS testing.  On Friday, the children will be treated to a program about germs.  Should be interesting and lots of fun.  Next week is Fall Break so there will be NO SCHOOL!  Hope everyone has an enjoyable week and gets lots of needed rest to finish out the semester strong.

Have a great week!
