Governor Beshear Announces In-Person Classes Will Not Resume This School Year.  Harrison County School District Provides Updated Information

Cynthiana, Kentucky (April 20, 2020) - Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear has announced to Kentucky's superintendents that schools would not be able to return to regular in-person classes for the remainder of the current school year.
Following his announcement, Interim Education Commissioner Kevin Brown shared the basics of his Education Continuation Plan and requirements for closing the end of the instructional year for districts. All districts will be required to complete the statutorily required 1062 instructional hours.
Using the tools provided by the legislature in SB177 as well as relief provided by Governor Andy Beshear in Executive Order and the State Board of Education through regulation waivers, Harrison County will meet the statutorily required 1062 instructional hours early in the first week of May.
“While we are calculating the exact date, our leadership team has been working, and continues to work feverishly, to plan for the close of the instructional year,” said Superintendent Burchett.  “As a school family, we are extremely disappointed that we will not be able to have your children back in our classrooms this year.”
During the next few days, families will receive information regarding activities that will help provide closure for the current school year.  This may look a little different at each grade level and especially school level.
Of particular concern is Senior graduation. Mr. Fowler and his team have been working with students, class sponsors, and the community to develop a plan or plans for graduation.  We are very close to announcing those graduation plans.
Again, please continue to check the district website, WCYN, and the Cynthiana Democrat for more information regarding all close-of-the-year activities.
