Book Character Pumpkins

Book Character Pumpkins!

Decorate a pumpkin as your favorite book character and help decorate our library for Halloween!  If you choose to participate in this activity, pumpkin book characters can be brought to the library on Friday, Oct. 24, or Monday, Oct. 27.  Students and staff will be able to view the pumpkins from Oct. 27-30.  You will be able to take your pumpkin home on October 30th so it can be displayed at your house before Halloween!

Here are the rules:

  1. ABSOLUTELY NO CARVED PUMPKINS!!! Carved pumpkins rot, attract bugs, and smell.  But most importantly, we do not want a child handling any sharp instruments such as knives or carving tools.  You are welcome to use a real or artificial pumpkin or gourd for this project. The pumpkin must be the appropriate size to be assembled, carried, and delivered to the library by the student.

  2.  Pumpkins should represent a favorite book character.  Our library has books on famous TV characters such as Scooby Doo, Spiderman, and Disney princesses; therefore, all pumpkins decorated as these characters are allowed, as well as more traditional characters from literature (Clifford, The Cat in the Hat, Pig the Pug, etc.). Don’t feel limited to library books - if you have a favorite book at home, you are welcome to use that!)

  3. Pumpkins should be labeled with your name.  Complete this form and return it with the pumpkin. Students may pick up a form in the library.

  4. Although we welcome family participation while completing this project, much of the work should be completed by the student.

  5. Siblings/friends are welcome to work together on the same book character pumpkin!

  6. This is NOT a contest. Each student will receive a token of appreciation for taking part in this fun project.

  7. This is a completely optional project.
