Earlier in the week when we posted about HCS Counselors, we didn't have a photo of Crystal Wilson, HCMS Mental Health Specialist. Principal McIntire said that Mrs. Wilson is "outstanding" at what she does for our students. HCS is fortunate to have her on our team.

This week is National Family Resource & Youth Service Center Week in Kentucky! Each day we will introduce you to one of our valuable staff members who make our FRYSC so valuable to our schools and community. Meet Kelsey Currans! She is our MS FRYSC Coordinator! "I have been married to my husband, Shayne Currans, for 12 years and we have 3 children. Two of them attend Southside, and one will start Pre-K there next year. I graduated high school from Scott County, and I have lived in Harrison County now for 9 years. I went to the University of Kentucky and received my bachelors degree in Family Science, with an emphasis in education. Prior to coming to work for the school system, I served Harrison County families working as a Social Service Clinician at the Cabinet for Health and Family Services for 7 years. I have a passion for helping families, and I love that FRYSC gives me the opportunity and the resources to do that! In 2021, I became the Assistant FRYSC Coordinator at Harrison County High School and Harrison County Middle School. In 2022, when the middle school was given its own grant and the position became available, I received the FRYSC Coordinator position at the middle school. I love FRYSC and the opportunities it gives me to help Harrison County students, and their families!"

This week is National Family Resource & Youth Service Center Week in Kentucky! Each day we will introduce you to one of our valuable staff members who make our FRYSC so valuable to our schools and community. Meet Brad Allison! He is our HS FRYSC Coordinator! "I am a 1992 graduate of Harrison Co High School. In December of 1996, I graduated with a Radio and TV Degree from Morehead State University. I was fortunate enough to play baseball in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization from 1996-1999. I held the position of YSC Coordinator from July of 1999 until October of 2003 when I left the school system to work as an advertising sales representative and writer for the Cynthiana Democrat. Over the next four years, I realized that my passion was working with students and their families and had the opportunity to come back to the YSC as the assistant coordinator. In 2004, I began my own baseball instructional business which was open for 7 years. In the same year, I also worked and still currently hold the position of the Cynthiana Christian Church Youth Director. On a personal note, in November of 1996, I married to the former Stacey Bishop, of Harrison Co. We have three children together. Sarah is in her third year at Morehead State University, where she is a member of the Cheer Team. Elizabeth is in her second year at Eastern Kentucky University where she is studying to be an occupational therapist with a minor in American Sign Language. Noah is a 5th grade student at Southside Elementary. I love that the legislators in Kentucky were so forward in their thinking with Family Resource and Youth Services Centers that they knew to present each center with core components most relevant to just about everywhere in the state, but that they also gave the opportunity for each center to make sure they were meeting the needs within their own communities. The umbrella is very broad as far as what a Family Resource or Youth Services Center can do, and our progressive leaders did not place us in a box and constrain the potential to spread our wings. Each community, each school system is different and should be allowed to meet the needs in our unique situations. This is what Family Resource and Youth Services Centers can do because of the way our service was designed. We say all the time, that it takes a village to raise a child. I am glad Kentucky, as a village, gave the children and their families in this great state, an opportunity to meet those challenges of raising our children together, with all the help that it takes to grow the next successful generation, student by student. In my role as the Youth Services Center Coordinator at the High School in Harrison County, I get to be a part of this wonderful process."
